Resolutions and Realizations Regarding Your Wedding

The New Year is here and like most people, I have no idea where the year has gone.  Because New Year’s Resolutions can be daunting, I’ve consciously decided to be more realistic about expectations.  I might make a list, but I no longer feel that I have failed, if circumstances keep me from completing my goals.  This year list will include some specific items toward improving my health, my happiness, and most of all, having fun and enjoying life.  Rather than state, I will lose those 20 extra pounds, I basically resolve to eat healthier and exercise more.  So, at the end of the year, even if I haven’t lost those 20 pounds, but did eat healthier and exercise more, I’ve succeeded.

The same non-specific goal might be a good resolution for your wedding.  In my ancient times when I was single, I dreamed that my wedding would be so grand, and so wonderful – unlike any other wedding – elegant, fabulous and everyone would be exclaiming over and over how beautiful our wedding was.  That was not reality.  Other brides that I have met during this last year, who have planned their wedding, down to the tiniest detail, and then, even on the day of the wedding, failed to let go of that need “to control all things the day of the wedding” failed in their realization of what a wedding should be.  A wedding is not about the perfect dress, the exact color of the flowers, or how precisely executed the wedding was.  It’s about BEING HAPPY AND HAVING A WONDERFUL TIME on the most important day of your life, the day that you marry the one you love.   So, yes, let’s have a great time this year putting together your wedding, and when it’s time for the wedding, let all expectations fly away, and just truly enjoy the day.
