The Joy of a Small Wedding

Many couples are choosing a small wedding as it can be far more intimate than a traditional large wedding and let’s face it a small wedding can generally be within the reach of most people’s budget.  Inviting just a few close friends and immediate family members will allow you to choose options that might not otherwise be available.  You can spend your money where it really matters.

For instance, location is definitely more flexible.  You could choose to hold your ceremony in your home or a close’s friend’s home, perhaps a garden gazebo in a local park such as Tower Grove Park, or down on the riverfront with just the officiate and your guests gathered around.  And then there are some small party rooms you could rent for your “reception”.   The Moulin’s lower level Malt House Cellar can accommodate up to 130 guests and it offers entertainment – billiards, video games, etc.  And don’t forget about Llywelyn’s Pub at their various locations.  And if you are down in the city, talk to Molly’s in Soulard about renting their outdoor patio.

Food and refreshments for your guests can be more relaxed or you could choose a more formal dinner with a choice of two entrees at your favorite restaurant.  And a simple one or two layer cake is more than adequate.

While your wedding is “smaller” in scope, it’s still a very important day in your lives, and the one thing you don’t want to scrimp on is your photographer.  Your photographer will be with you all day, just like a bigger wedding, but he/she will probably  have more opportunities to catch some very romantic moments between the two of you.  These images will be priceless over the next 50 years!

Destination Wedding – Hermann, Missouri

Hermann, Missouri is known by most Missourian’s as a fabulous wine destination to visit, but it’s also a fabulous destination for a Wedding.  What’s nice is that it’s only about 70 miles from St. Louis, and it offers a friendly, small town atmosphere that’s hard to beat.  It’s situation on the Missouri River and is surrounded by vineyards.  It’s an old German community, with lots of neat older architecture.  Hermann was founded back in 1937 and has been chosen several times for the title of Missouri’s most beautiful town.

Hermann Misouri

Hermann Hill is one of the top wedding venues period.  They built their venue just for weddings with great attention to detail and potential for great photography on the Missouri river bluff.   I personally have worked with their staff, and they are awesome!   Service is exceptional as well as the food.  One of their specialties is a “Signature Champagne Toast” with family and friends at the ceremony.  Every guest receives a complimentary glass of champagne or grape juice to toast the new couple.  And there is more –  you and your new spouse enjoy a complimentary honeymoon night tucked away in your own Riverbluff Cottage suite.   Additional amenities include the best Bride’s room I ever seen; a Groom’s Room with a big-screen television, couch, recliners, and bar; a Gazebo overlooking the Missouri River, and the Pavilion with sconces, chandeliers, and an entire side of windows offering additional views of the river.

Another great wedding venue – relatively new – is Valentine Hall in Starkenburg – just 8 miles outside of Hermann.  It’s an absolutely beautiful site.

When you are in Hermann, just park the car and hire Hermann Trolley.  They will take you and your guest to all the best wineries in town based on YOUR schedule.  You simply call them when it’s time to move to the next spot you want to visit.  Out of town guest won’t get lost – but most importantly – everyone will have a great time.
